Description

“Billion Dollar Brain” was the third and final film in the original “Harry Palmer” trilogy released in the 1960s. Based on Len Deighton’s popular novels and featuring Michael Caine at his youthful best, the series followed anti-hero spy Palmer and his exploits during the Cold War dominated 1960s. The series provided a more downbeat alternative to the Bond franchise with Caine’s irreverant though restrained portrayal of Palmer finding particular praise.

The film was directed by esteemed British auteur Ken Russell. Russell, who would later make acclaimed and controversial pictures like “Women in Love”, “The Devil’s” and “Tommy” was still relatively new to feature-length filmmaking with this being just his second effort. Despite this, his direction and involvement has been acclaimed and allowed him to make more personal projects in the future.

While all 3 posters in the "Harry Palmer" trilogy offer predominantly white backgrounds, thereafter the design of each poster is highly individualistic. "The Ipcress File" (1965) initially adopts a somewhat simple & sombre tone, the design being largely photographic. By the time of "Funeral In Berlin" (1966), however, the Quad poster illustration reflected a more contemporary feel. The Quad for "Billion Dollar Brain" (1967) completes the transition, the pop-art inspired design perfectly reflecting the "flower-power" influence that came to symbolise the "Swinging Sixties".

The poster has been linen-backed.
