Description
A great combination of a story of outstanding heroism in WWII & a superb illustration by Eric Pulford. The film recounted the story of wartime agent Szabo (played by Virginia McKenna). Recruited into SOE, Szabo was dropped into occupied France but on her second mission, she was captured & tortured by the Gestapo. She was executed at Ravensbruck Concentration Camp in 1945 & was awarded the posthumous George Cross. Eric Pulford established the Downton Advertising Agency & assembled a stellar cast of designers & illustrators who contributed to some of the most iconic UK cinema posters during the 50's - 70's including Vic Fair, Brian Bysouth, John Stockle & the Italians Renato Fratini & Arnaldo Putzu. As Downton developed, so Pulford spent more time designing rather than illustrating himself but in the 1950's he still regularly contributed finished artwork such as this. The poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
