Description

The one Bond film not made by the Broccoli's & filmed very much as a "spoof". Nonetheless, this film is considered to be  part of the Bond canon, featuring in the sumptuous book by Dennis Gassner "James Bond: 50 Years of Movie Posters" (2012). "Casino Royale" also benefitted from being illustrated by leading Bond poster artist, Robert McGinnis, his image of a nude girl with a psychedelic painted back being the inspiration for future poster designs such as the US 1-Sheet for "The Italian Job" (1969) as shown & the Quad for "The Illustrated Man" (1969).

The psych design, not only mirrored the chaotic freedom of the "Summer of Love" in London during 1967 but also reflected the unconventional way in which the film was made. In total 6 Directors worked on the film & the script was unfinished when filming commenced. Any leading actor or actress passing through London at the time of shooting was shoe-horned into a cameo role, hence the eclectic cast list on the poster. In the spirit of near anarchy that reigned, Peter Sellers had a fist fight with director, Joseph McGrath (Sellers lost) & Sellers threw a tantrum if he caught sight of the colour purple when on set. Sellers also refused to appear on set at the same time as Orson Welles.....a "tortured genius". The poster design thus mirrors what turned out to be a very curious film. This poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
