Description
An iconic image on this British poster for this film by the doyen of the Underground movement, Andy Warhol, artwork by the British artist Alan Aldridge. Such is the status of this Poster, that it was chosen as the front cover for the catalogue for the ground-breaking Christies "Exploitation Poster Art Sale" (2005). According to the Christies catalogue: "This poster for Chelsea Girls is dated 1970 & was designed & printed specifically for a special screening at the Arts Laboratory, 182 Drury Lane, London. The award-winning Alan Aldridge was one of the most famous & important graphic designers of the 1960's.....His work, reflecting the psychedelic & experimental spirit of the age, was admired & embraced by bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who & Pink Floyd..... although the image (for "Chelsea Girls") won a Silver Award from the Design & Art Director's Club, the censors remained unimpressed & the fly-posting of the poster across London led to Aldridge's prosecution". Although the poster dates from 1970, the film was made back in 1966. This particular example of the poster has been autographed by Aldridge (probably at a later date).
