Description
A common marketing ploy of the British film industry was the re-releasing of previously successful films with a 2nd feature as here. "Come Play With Me" (1977) starring Mary Millington, had proved to be a huge commercial success for Producer David Sullivan. Tony Tenser's Distribution company, Tigon, were quick to exploit the success of "Come Play With Me" by acquiring the German Sex film "Die Nichten der Frau Oberst" which, though having nothing to do with the original film, was dubbed & re-titled "Come Play With Me 2". Tigon wisely returned to Tom Chantrell for the new poster illustration. Chantrell bolted his image of Ms Millington onto new artwork for the "Come Play With Me 2". As a commercial artist, Chantrell took a very utilitarian approach to his original painted artwork & will have scissor cut the image of Mary & transposed it onto the artwork for this new double-bill. This practice of re-using pieces of his own artwork shows Chantrell to have taken a shrewd unsentimental attitude to his work. Obviously at the time this was an efficient way for the artist to work, for once a piece of artwork had been created, used & paid for, it had limited commercial value at the time.
