Description
This searing vision of the carnage on the Eastern front proved to be one of Peckinpah's last films. "Cross of Iron", however, is regarded as being among the best of Peckinpah's productions. The violent realism of "The Wild Bunch" is given full reign in "Cross of Iron" too. Arnaldo Putzu captures this mood superbly with a graphic image of a German soldier laying prone in the snow, fingers desperately clawing for an Iron Cross (the German Army's highest award for bravery). The Blu-ray release of the film contains a documentary about the making of the "Cross of Iron" including a shot of Peckinpah reading a telegram from Orson Welles, who describes the film as "one of the finest war films ever made". This poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
