From the brilliant Jimmy Perry/David Croft TV series (1968-77), this is a poster for the film spin-off, showing the entire cast of regulars (Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier, Clive Dunn, Ian Lavender, James Beck, Arthur Ridley etc) poised for action. Probably the most successful & best loved of all British sitcoms, "Dad's Army" ran for 9 series comprised of 80 episodes. The series initially achieved viewing figures of 8 million but at it's peak over 18 million Britons tuned in! In 1971, the decision was taken to launch "Dad's Army" onto the big screen. For such a diverse group of actors (Arthur Lowe played to type, Clive Dunn was a staunch socialist & John Le Mesurier was indeed as laid back as the character he portrayed & very much from the public school mold) they gelled surprisingly well & a deep sense of camaraderie evolved. Given the success of the franchise, the Poster had little to do other than to feature the cast, all whom were already familiar to the viewing public. A surprisingly difficult poster to find (especially in presentable condition gven the white background). The poster has been professionally cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
