Description
For a film about the foundation of the state of Israel, the poster imagery is particularly suitable: arms raised against a burning foreground, symbolising a desperate struggle for freedom. This is a superb example of Saul Bass's work. Bass was a graphic designer responsible for some of the most iconic of all American poster designs ( "Love In The Afternoon" (1957), "Vertigo" (1958), "In Harm's Way" (1964) etc). Bass was particularly associated with the design of posters for Alfred Hitchcock & unusually for a poster designer & artist, Bass also collaborated with Hitchcock on the opening credits sequences for a number of his films. The poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
