Description
When the first Bond film, "Dr No" was released in 1962, no one could have anticipated the creation of what has become a global brand. The artwork for the "Dr No" Quad has a somewhat anonymous feel to it. However, with this illustration for the 1963 sequel, the London based Italian artist Renato Fratini, really captures the essence of Bond: the laconic smile, the classy DJ, the gun poised, nubile women, an exotic location, action & violence, it's all there!  Being part of the Downton advertising agency, Fratini worked with two of the great British Poster designers of the era: Eric Pulford & Eddie Paul. Fratini's illustration of Bond is believed to have been based on an Eddie Paul design. The David Chasman American poster for the film adopted a more photo-realist approach but the Quad is generally the more sought after of the two posters. This poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
