Description
Following the success of The Beatles first film, "A Hard Day's Night" (1964), "Help" was released a year later. The photographic poster design was based on the LP cover for the soundtrack release of the film, this by Robert Freeman. Freeman wanted to photograph The Beatles using semaphore to spell the word "Help" but a random semaphore arrangement was used for artistic purposes. When the Quad poster was designed, John, Paul & Ringo were re-positioned using Freeman's original negatives. Freeman was The Beatles favoured photographer diuring the period 1963-65, being responsible for 5 consecutive Beatles LP cover designs: "With The Beatles" (1963), "A Hard Day's Night" (1964), "Beatles for Sale" (1964), "Help" (1965) & "Rubber Soul" (1965). This poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
