Description
Poster for this fascinating Lindsay Anderson film from 1968 which brought a satirical focus on the Public School and Establishment system of post-war Britain. Macolm McDowell plays the subversive leader of the Public School rioters which leads to a fantasy climax involving a tank, machine-guns & a hand-grenade battle on the school premises. Ater his performance in "If" it is not hard to see why Stanley Kubrick chose McDowell to star in "A Clockwork Orange" (1971). Anderson filmed "If" at Aldenham School, Elstree. This particular poster is a rare example in unfolded condition & is an original release poster. According to Emily King ("Movie Poster" 2003) the poster was inspired by the design of the politically radical "Nova" magazine (1965-75).
