Description
The predominantly white background on this poster makes it hard to find examples in good display condition. This example is in excellent condition having been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed. The design features work by two American artists: Dan Goozee who painted the figure of Bond with Octopussy & Renato Casaro whose work provides the background scenes. The individual components of Casaro's imagery was variously positioned before this final version was approved. Goozee's image of Bond & Octopussy is reminiscent of the Robert McGinnis depiction on "Diamonds Are Forever". The multi-armed Octopussy is shown suggestively caressing Bond's gun with another hand poised dangerously at mid-riff (on McGinnis's early designs, female hands were deemed to be too close to Bond's groin & were shifted upwards). As pointed out in the excellent 318-page tome "James Bond - 50 Years of Movie Posters" (2012), the tagline "James Bond's all time high", refers to the title song for the film "All Time High" by Rita Coolidge.
