Description
One of the most iconic images from 20th century cinema, sufficiently so that it made the front cover of the Poster "bible", Sim Branaghan's excellent book, "British Film Posters" (2006). Artist, Tom Chantrell, employed his trademark use of day-glo title script & presented Raquel Welch in particularly alluring form (for more information about Chantrell, see the Chantrell biography on www.chantrellposter.com). Chantrell acted as the de facto in-house artist for Hammer Studios during the period 1965-70 & was so revered by the head of Hammer, James Carreras, that he was employed to produce prototype artwork to be used in financing pitches even before films were in production. Courtesy of the Chantrell website, we show a rare example of the prototype for "One Million Years B.C.". The female lead here reveals that Ms Welch had not been cast at this point but the perspective title & elements of the action to the bottom of the prototype were eventually utilised in the finished Quad. This poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
