Description
The intricate detail & a trademark "explosion" in the background are giveaway signs of the artist Brian Bysouth & this is one of his best known posters. Like the example of "Star Wars" (where the poster commission was swapped from US designers to UK artist Tom Chantrell), this "Raiders.." poster had a similar genesis. The original US poster design by Richard Amsel was initially printed in the UK but as Sim Branaghan states in "British Film Posters" (2006), Bysouth was "commissioned when the original US design was felt to be rather subdued" (the Amsel poster shown courtesy of www.moviepostermem.com). The poster here is from the original release bearing the "A" certificate after the film title (later examples bear the newly introduced "PG" certification). Earlier first release Posters such as this one are generally also printed with a higher standard of colour differentiation too. This poster has been cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
