Description
One of the earlier posters in the collection is "The Blue Parrot" dating from 1953. The somewhat naive style reflects not only the period but also denotes low-budget advertising for a low-budget film. This crime drama was set in a nightclub & tells the tale of the nightclub owner & her boyfriend being chased by the police for a murder they did not commit. Like many films of the time, producers of "The Blue Parrot" had an eye on the American market. Often, American actors were imported to carry lead roles in an effort to make films more palatable for domestic American audiences. In the case of "The Blue Parrot", however, Irish actor Dermot Walsh was drafted in to play the token American. This cost-cutting exercise may seem quaint but it has to be seen against the background of the post-war economic crisis that afflicted Britain. "Austerity" in the post-war period was not only long-lasting but severe, shown by the fact that food rationing did not terminate till July 1954, a full 9 years after the war. This poster is exhibited already framed.
