Description
This 1961 WWII film was based on the novel by Alistair MacLean & was the first of his novels to be turned into a film. MacLean's work was much in demand during the 1960's-70's, regularly being adapted for the big screen, including such films as "Ice Station Zebra" (1968), "Where Eagles Dare" (1968) & "When Eight Bells Toll" (1971). Boasting a stellar trans-Atlantic cast, "The Guns of Navarone" was sufficiently successful in it's own right to spawn a sequel in 1978, "Force Ten From Navarone". The artwork for the US 1-Sheet Poster (image courtesy of www.emovieposter.com) for this film was by Howard Terpning, this being the first of over 80 film Posters that Terpning was to create. The Quad poster here appears to have been adapted directly from Terpning's work
