Description
This is the poster for the controversial Danny Boyle film based on the novel by Irvine Welsh. The poster introduces the main characters, the image partially resembling a police line-up photo, the blurred image of "Begbie" (Robert Carlyle) giving the impression of a view from a fast-moving train. The photograph is by Lorenzo Agius, design by Stylorouge. Ewan McGregor plays a character ("Renton") who struggles to escape from a life of heroin addiction but keeps being pulled back into the clutches of his low-life friends. Boyle's searing look at the under-belly of the Scottish drugs scene caused disquiet in conservative parts of the United States, though the film could hardly be taken as a recommendation of a "druggie" lifestyle. The use of contempoary Indie music provides a pulsating background to what ultimately was both a commercially successful & critically acclaimed film. Interestingly, the "challenging" reference to Hollywood on the Quad design was amended on the US 1-Sheet Poster (image courtesy of emovieposter.com). The Quad poster here is the original first release double-sided version(designed for back projection in a light box). This is a film poster which has been reproduced, invariably just single-sided.
