Description
Quite often, 2 different Quad posters would be designed for the UK market, a Style-A & a Style-B. The vast majority of cinema managers would use only the Style-A poster but larger cinemas sometimes wanted extra advertising material, hence the choice. In the case of "You Only Live Twice", however, 3 Quad posters were produced to advertise the film. By 1967, it was clear that a James Bond franchise was developing & United Artists probably felt the extra cost was well worth it. This poster (the Style-B) was by American artist, Frank McCarthy (he also painted the Style-A "volcano" Quad). The imagery is delightfully improbable: Bond navigating his "Little Nellie" gyrocopter, firing missiles, dodging SPECTRE helicopters, explosions all around, yet still able to pose as the epitome of "cool"! The YOLT series of posters is one of the few examples of James Bond Quad not to include the "007" logo into the design. The poster has been professionally cleaned, de-acidified & linen-backed.
